Johnson, Kjorstad win Big Dipper Last Chance Half Marathon
Bryan Johnson and Sarah Kjorstad on Saturday won the men’s and women’s divisions of the Big Dipper Ice Cream Last Chance Half Marathon.
Johnson won the 13.1-mile race in one hour, 27 minutes, 56 seconds. Kjorstad finished three spots later in 1:30.41.
The race started at the west edge of Le Grande Cannon Boulevard and wove through the Westside hills before climbing — and descending — Orofino Gulch past Unionville. The race finished on the Walking Mall in front of Big Dipper, this year’s premier sponsor.
Following Johnson in the men’s top-five were Keith Wilson (1:28.10), Norm Larson (1:28.21), Mike Fanning (1:36.34) and Nicholas Ricardi (1:37.34).
Kjorstad put a seven-minute gap on the next women’s finisher, Debbie Gibson, who took second in 1:37.12. The remaining top-five finishers were Sarah Urban (1:38.49), Anna Doran (1:43.11) and Robin Meguire (1:44.06).
Larson and Gibson were the men’s and women’s master’s champions, respectively.
